Overview

Guangzhou is a city of extraordinary contrasts: colonial-era Shamian Island sits minutes from the gleaming towers of Zhujiang New Town, and centuries-old teahouses share streets with luxury malls. The Pearl River stitches the city together, best seen from the banks at night with Canton Tower blazing above. Cantonese food culture runs deep here — from roasted meats on Beijing Road to the legendary dim sum halls of Liwan — making Guangzhou one of the world's great eating cities. Add the Chimelong resort complex, Baiyun Mountain, and easy day trips to Kaiping and Shunde, and you have a destination that rewards every type of traveler.
